Thesis

Immigrants came to America during the 19th and 20th centuries in hopes of a better future. However, they were also escaping religious and political persecution. The immigrants had the right to live in healthy tenement apartments, as the slumlords had the responsibilities of ensuring the safety of all the tenants. Many incidents contributed to the new laws and regulations for slumlords to follow. These new laws forced landlords to improve the quality of the tenement housing.
