Through our research, we have come to the conclusion that there were many health and safety codes that needed to be addressed within the New York tenements. Many lives were lost and disease ran rampant as the new immigrants were exposed to the more grotesque parts of the American Dream. Though not all of those legislation acts were followed, some of them eventually were. The tenements were dirty and unhealthy to live in. Unfortunately, many had to suffer to bring about change. With those changes the tenements were cleaned up to provide better living conditions for the immigrants.
